BOTH THE TAX INCENTIVES AND THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR TECHNOLOGICAL PRODUCTS AT A GLOBAL LEVEL, ARE FACTORS THAT HAVE HELPED THE GROWTH OF EXPORTS FROM GUATEMALAN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT COMPANIES.
Businessman from the sector determine that the most demanded services are software development, creation of Apps, video games, digital strategies to promote brands, the use of drones for studies and data analysis.
Even though this type of export is difficult to measure, it is estimated that the income obtained from software exportation during the first trimestre of this year, surpassed the total sales abroad reported in 2018. Knowing this, it is expected that the total sales abroad will be doubled for the year 2019 compared to the previous one.
Devadit Barahona, president President of the Board of Directors of the Software Commission of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport) explained to Prensalibre.com that the growth in the sector was influenced by the Decree 19-2016, which allows software exporting companies to not pay income taxes, the first 10 years since being established.
Barahona also added that this industry does not see a limit and there is still enough space for growth. He affirmed that everyone could, and should use this technology for data analysis, administrative management or online brand building. It is no longer a thing of the future.
It is estimated that these software companies will create around 3.500 direct jobs and 27 thousand indirect jobs in the tech industry, being the US, Mexico, CA, Japan and Germany the main markets for their exports.
